For 2011, the six-speed manual transmission was only available on base LS models and Cruzes with the efficiency-oriented Eco package. Now, Chevrolet says that it will pair the row-it-yourself transmission with the better-equipped 1LT and 2LT models, both of which come standard with the Cruze’s uplevel 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
Cruzes with that turbo motor and an automatic transmission will receive a 2 mpg highway bump, which should give them a city/highway rating of 26/38 mpg. GM hasn’t detailed mpg for Cruzes with the manual transmission and the 1.4-liter turbo motor, but Leftlane expects them to receive at least a 40 mpg highway rating given that the efficiency-oriented Cruze Eco is rated at 42 mpg with that gearbox.
Otherwise, the Cruze lineup receives some minor equipment shuffling and a few new features. A rear center headrest is dropped from all models, while base LSs lose their hinged dash-top storage box. Keyless access with a starter button is a new standard feature on range-topping LTZs and a new option for uplevel 2LTs. A new, simpler navigation system with a 7-inch screen will be available on 2LTs, LTZs and Ecos and it will cost less, Chevrolet says.
Finally, Imperial Blue has been dropped from the lineup, while Blue Topaz Metallic and Victory Red (RS model only) are new additions.
Stay tuned as Chevrolet is expected to confirm fuel economy figures and pricing for the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze.
